PALM TREE DISEASE
BUTT ROT (OF PALMS): Ganoderma Butt Rot has attacked
several palm trees within our Community. The visible signs of this
disease are either a small white “button" or a reddish-brown
mushroom-like growth on the trunk. There is no cure or preventative
treatment currently available. The affected trees need to be removed as
soon as possible to prevent the spread of the disease. Removal of
the affected trees is more involved than just cutting them down. Only
someone familiar with the procedure should be allowed to work on them.
If a palm is affected download a modification request form by clicking
HERE, then
submit the completed form to the Master Association Office.
In addition, the recent frosts have damaged many palm
trees, turning the leaves yellow or brown. A certified landscaper, many
of whom have attended a recent seminar on the disease, can assist you in
determining whether it is Ganoderma or the frost that is affecting your
trees. If your landscaper is not familiar with this disease,
please insist that they learn about it.
